Super Skinny Fries Oil Painting by Jennydraws

SUPER SKINNY FRIES 24X30 OIL PAINTING

Im trying something new. Oil paints. They are super fun, buttery and creamy and vibrant.  I love them. This is an analogous  painting, meaning using 3 colors that are next to each other on the color wheel.  I used shades of alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, and purple.  I thought this appropriate for the theme of this painting.  Americas fascination with being thin and yet eating fast food at the same time.  Notice the super sized diet pills in the left and corner.

Rescued a squirrel?

Yes, in Mexico a friend of mine rescued two baby squirrels and raised them for 4 months and then released them.  Their names were Pecan and Almond.  This watercolor is off my daughter and Pecan.

Summer Days Almost Here

                     Oak Tree

I found this great book on Watercolors entitled  Terry's Top Tips for Watercolour Artists by Terry Harrison, and I love it.  Today I practiced some tree techniques from Terry's book.  I found the book very helpful.

Whinny

I have not posted in a while.  I have been working on my childrens book, and how I wish I could post the pictures, but I cannot.  Here is a watercolor I worked on today to put into my portfolio.

My daughters Tatum and Capri are taking horseback riding lessons, and this horses name is Whinny.  Isn't she cute?

This weeks challenge was the word "fearless".  I immediately thought of all the upcoming graduation party's coming up soon.  Its so hard as parents to watch your children grow up and leave the nest.  Congrats to all those graduating soon.  If you like it, and know of someone graduating soon take a peak in my Etsy shop.  I have this card up for sell.

Ensenada Mexico House

Ensenada Wellness Center

I painted this for a Doctor in Ensenada Mexico who has helped me feel so much better recently.  He practices out of the cutest building, and because he has helped me so much, I want to give this to him as a gift.  Hope he likes it.  Here is the real picture I worked from.

Red Head with a View

Today I finished up this little painting. I have been experimenting with colored pencils and oil paints.  I found product that I love called Liquin Original from Windsor & Newton. It smooths out the colored pencil and oil paints, and dries the oils pretty quickly.   Down below are a few photos that I saw on a blog a couple of weeks ago. For the life of me I can't find out who posted these pictures below.  If anyone remembers who these pictures belong to can you let me know?  I thought I would use them as inspiration for "Red Head with a View".

Cold, Freezing, Dana Point

Last weekend, my family and I went to Dana Point, CA for a little getaway surf weekend. I am not a surfer, but I was excited to spend my weekend on the beach painting. However, it was sooooooo cold that I really wasn't that inspired to paint.  I struggled for a bit, and I must say I am not happy with this painting.  I must also admit that I usually only like to post my best drawings or paintings, but I think that as an artist, most of us deal with only so so work on occasion. Therefore I want to post this and maybe I will learn something from it, like not expecting perfectionism from myself with every piece of artwork.

Does this even make sense?.....hmmmm.

Sun came out briefly on this shot.

Me, freezing cold waiting for my husband and daughter to come in from surfing.

Author: Paul Laurence Dunbar [More Titles by Dunbar
Wintah time hit comin'
Stealin' thoo de night;
Wake up in the mo'nin'
Evah t'ing is white;
Cabin lookin' lonesome
Stannin' in de snow,
Meks you kin' o' nervous,
Wen de win' hit blow.

Trompin' back from feedin',
Col' an' wet an' blue,
Homespun jacket ragged,
Win' a-blowin' thoo.
Cabin lookin' cheerful,
Unnerneaf de do',
Yet you kin' o' keerful
Wen de win' hit blow.

Hickory log a-blazin'
Light a-lookin' red,
Faith o' eyes o' peepin'
'Rom a trun'le bed,
Little feet a-patterin'
Cleak across de flo';
Bettah had be keerful
Wen de win' hit blow.

Suppah done an' ovah,
Evah t'ing is still;
Listen to de snowman
Slippin' down de hill.
Ashes on de fiah,
Keep it wa'm but low.
What's de use o' keerin'
Ef de win' do blow?

Smoke house full o' bacon,
Brown an' sweet an' good;
Taters in de cellah,
'Possum roam de wood;
Little baby snoozin'
Des ez ef he know.
What's de use o' keerin'
Ef de win' do blow?

The Swan Thieves

I wanted to add to my blog a great book that I have been listening to while I paint or even do housework.
Its called "The Swan Thieves" by Elizabeth Kostova. Click here to see a quick video blog about the book.

If you are a painter, I think you will definitely enjoy reading this or hearing it.

Colonial Mexican Fountain

Well, Its been awhile since I've posted.  I get into a rut, and then I snap out of it.  This little 9 x 12 painting was fun to make. I used oil paints which I've always had problems with in the past.  I love the brilliance of oil paints though, and I would love to master them better.

Capri, Italy

Usually I am a very tight painter, but i would like to change my style up a bit.  This was my first attempt at it.  I must say I was nervous. I need lots more practice at it.  I found an awesome watercolorist on YouTube. Check him out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hufRxne3aQ.  I just love this mans work. His name is Ng Woon Lam.

Chicken is Better

Next time you take a bite into your bacon, chew on this for awhile: http://www.peta.org/feat/invest/disclaimer.html

I will not post pictures of tormented little pigs because it is too disturbing, but next time you buy your pork, make sure it comes from a farmer who cares about his little piggies and treats them right.

P.S - Make sure your chickens are free range chicks too. :)

Frog Story

Here is an updated version of my frog illustration. I've been playing around with Gouche and I like the brightness it gives to the paper.

Wow- too much time away from my blog

I can't believe how long its been since I've been on my blog.  I miss all my friends that I've made by blogging, and I can't wait to get back into it again. Yippee. I have some drawings that I will be posting soon.  I haven't had much time for that recently but I plan on fixing that soon.
