Cold, Freezing, Dana Point

Last weekend, my family and I went to Dana Point, CA for a little getaway surf weekend. I am not a surfer, but I was excited to spend my weekend on the beach painting. However, it was sooooooo cold that I really wasn't that inspired to paint.  I struggled for a bit, and I must say I am not happy with this painting.  I must also admit that I usually only like to post my best drawings or paintings, but I think that as an artist, most of us deal with only so so work on occasion. Therefore I want to post this and maybe I will learn something from it, like not expecting perfectionism from myself with every piece of artwork.

Does this even make sense?.....hmmmm.

Sun came out briefly on this shot.

Me, freezing cold waiting for my husband and daughter to come in from surfing.

Colonial Mexican Fountain

Well, Its been awhile since I've posted.  I get into a rut, and then I snap out of it.  This little 9 x 12 painting was fun to make. I used oil paints which I've always had problems with in the past.  I love the brilliance of oil paints though, and I would love to master them better.

Watercolor House

I've been painting this picture this week for a neighbor up the street from where I live. Last week, I thought I would make a flyer of my work for my neighborhood, and promote my small business of JennyDraws. I will be offering to draw and paint peoples homes for them.

First I drew my own house, which I have posted here before, and then I went up to my favorite house on the street and I asked the owner if I could use her house on my flyer. I will be giving her this painting for free in exchange for using it as advertising for myself. What do you all think? Is it a good idea. I am still working on the flyer, but I think this is a good start for myself.

SketchBooks Rule

Almost all of my doodling occurs in a sketchbook. I sketch in many different sizes. The current one I am using, seems to be my favorite. Where do you do your doodling at?

I am working on a series of paintings right now that involve my wire-hair dachshund named "Peanut", and some pesky cats. Like my "Grandma" series, I will start with one animal and work my way up to five or six. ( In this case, I am using the cats, in my Grandma series I used mice). Since my Peanut is so spoiled, my little paintings will reflect a very spoiled dachshund. :) hm mm.... I'm wondering if I should use watercolors or acrylics.

Go Green and Buy a Flying Carpet

I couldn't resist drawing this quick sketch. A magic carpet would be a fantastic way to get around. What do you think?

I am hoping that my fishbowl class that Marissa from http://www.creativethursday.com/ will continue with her next class for her first fishy students. This fun little watercolor reflects us fishies ready to journey into open waters real soon.
